->AMEN!!<-

1 Kings 1:33-37 The king also said unto them, Take with you the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to ride upon mine own mule, and bring him down to Gihon: 34 And let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over Israel: and blow ye with the trumpet, and say, God save king Solomon. 35 Then ye shall come up after him, that he may come and sit upon my throne; for he shall be king in my stead: and I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and over Judah. 36 And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king, and said, Amen: the LORD God of my lord the king say so too. 37 As the LORD hath been with my lord the king, even so be he with Solomon, and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord king David.

In our text tonight, we see Benaiah reacting to the words of the king as he commanded to move to make his son Solomon king instead of Adonijah. The old king’s command was dangerous, but it was the right thing. It was the revealed will of God to David that Solomon would sit on his throne and would be the builder of His temple (I Kings 1:30) The response of Benaiah was AMEN!

The word “amen” is a Biblical word, used by God, and by His people throughout and since Biblical times. The word is found 72 times in our English Bible and it’s Hebrew and Greek source words are found 150 times (24 O.T. And 126 N.T.)

When a preacher stands in a pulpit and preaches the word of God, it is the normal response, it is the necessary response of Bible believing people to bear witness with “AMEN”! When a brother or sister speaks the truth of God it is normal and necessary for other believers to witness with “AMEN”!

Strong’s Hebrew Dictionary ‘amen aw-mane’

from 539; sure; abstract, faithfulness; adverb, truly:–> Amen, so be it, truth.

Isaiah 65:16 That he who blesseth himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth Nma; and he that sweareth in the earth shall swear by the God of truth Nma; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hid from mine eyes.

Jeremiah 11:5 That I may perform the oath which I have sworn unto your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day. Then answered I, and said, So be it Nma, O LORD.

Strong’s Greek Dictionary amen am-ane’

of Hebrew origin (543); properly, firm, i.e. (figuratively) trustworthy; adverbially, surely (often as interjection, so be it):–> amen, verily.

The First mention of the word in Scripture takes place in Numbers 5:22 and shows a woman’s consent to the procedures of the Law to determine her innocence…  Her future reputation and well being was to be determined by the judgments of God in this instance!

The word is used in Deuteronomy 27 twelve times to demonstrate the conformity of the People of God to the curses of the Law to the disobedient.

To say “Amen” to Biblical truth is Biblical, it should be done rightly, and reverently and regularly.

The “Amen section” of the Old Testament demonstrates the consent to the judgments of God’s Law (Deuteronomy 27 *see vs. 15,16,17,18,19, 20 ,21, 22, 23, 34, 25, and 26)

The “Amen section” of the Book of Romans delights in the blessings of Christ and the Creator through His peace and grace (Romans *see 1:25, 9:5, 11:36, 15:33, 16:20, 16:24, and 16:27)

The “Amen Section of the book of Revelation declares the praise of Christ! (1:6 Christ’s MAKING, 1:7 Christ’s RETURN, 1:18 Christ’s VICTORY, 3:14 Christ’s IDENTITY, 5:14 Christ’s WORSHIP, 7:12 Christ’s WORTHINESS, 19:4 Christ’s JUDGEMENT, 22:20 Christ’s COMING, and 22:21 Christ’s GRACE)

Twenty-four of the twenty-seven New Testament books are concluded with the word “amen”

Jesus concludes his model prayer with the word “amen” (Matthew 6) The Scriptures themselves are concluded with the word “amen”!

I. A Proclamation

A. Acknowledgment

ac·knowl·edg·ment or ac·knowl·edge·ment n.

1. The act of admitting or owning to something.

2. Recognition of another’s existence, validity, authority, or right.

3. An answer or response in return for something done.

4. An expression of thanks or a token of appreciation.

5. A formal declaration made to authoritative witnesses to ensure legal validity.

B. Agreement

C. Assent

as·sent (-snt)

intr.v. as·sent·ed, as·sent·ing, as·sents

To agree, as to a proposal; concur. n.

1. Agreement; concurrence: reached assent on a course of action.

2. Acquiescence; consent: gave my assent to the plan.

Numbers 5:19-22 And the priest shall charge her by an oath, and say unto the woman, If no man have lain with thee, and if thou hast not gone aside to uncleanness with another instead of thy husband, be thou free from this bitter water that causeth the curse: 20 But if thou hast gone aside to another instead of thy husband, and if thou be defiled, and some man have lain with thee beside thine husband: 21 Then the priest shall charge the woman with an oath of cursing, and the priest shall say unto the woman, The LORD make thee a curse and an oath among thy people, when the LORD doth make thy thigh to rot, and thy belly to swell; 22 And this water that causeth the curse shall go into thy bowels, to make thy belly to swell, and thy thigh to rot: And the woman shall say, Amen, amen.

The woman in this case, consents herself to God’s prescribed judgment by here “Amen, amen!”

II. Demonstration

A. Confidence

2 Timothy 4:16-18 At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge. 17 Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. 18 And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

B. Commitment

Nehemiah 8:1-6 And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street that was before the water gate; and they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded to Israel. 2 And Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation both of men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month. 3 And he read therein before the street that was before the water gate from the morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive unto the book of the law. 4 And Ezra the scribe stood upon a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Urijah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchiah, and Hashum, and Hashbadana, Zechariah, and Meshullam. 5 And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people; (for he was above all the people;) and when he opened it, all the people stood up: 6 And Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God. And all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting up their hands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped the LORD with their faces to the ground.

C. Conformity

Revelation 1:7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

D. Consent

Jeremiah 28:6 Even the prophet Jeremiah said, Amen: the LORD do so: the LORD perform thy words which thou hast prophesied, to bring again the vessels of the LORD’S house, and all that is carried away captive, from Babylon into this place.

Jeremiah only consented to believe the positive words of the false prophet if they were God’s!

III. A Description

A. The Title of Christ ~ He is the Amen!

Revelation 3:14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;

B. The Entitlements of Christ’s ~ In Him is Amen!

2 Corinthians 1:19-20 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea. 20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

C. The Exploit’s of Christ! ~ Through Him is AMEN!

Revelation 1:17-18 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: 18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

God’s people should be such whose lives and lips form a continuous chorus of “AMENS!” that Acknowledge, Assent, and Affirm our Agreement with the truth of God and His Word! Our lives and lips should Clearly Proclaim our commitment, consent, and conformity to God and His Word. Likewise we should be actively Praising and Blessing Him… I say, AMEN!!!
